Chelsea Market in NYC
We stumbled across the Chelsea Market while walking down 9th Ave. lost looking for the right subway. I, of course, had heard of the Chelsea Market in NYC, but really didn’t know much about it, what it looked like or even what they sold there. I assumed it was some sort of Farmer’s Market. I saw a small sign overhead that said “Chelsea Market” and in one swift ninja move grabbed Caleb’s arm and pulled him through the door at the last second.
I was a little confused when the first thing I saw was Anthropologie and cave-like walls. Was this a mall? Was it a dungeon? Was it a dungeon mall? It was a little dark as we walked in and as we walked in further there were a couple of more shops, bakeries, dining and a quaint area with tables and chairs. Starving, we picked up some lunch at Ruthy’s Bakery and Cafe. The portions were quite hefty and delicious! It was a good hot meal coming in from the cold!
From that little sitting area there was a hallway leading further – I just couldn’t fathom that those couple of shops was the whole she-bang. We are nosey so we decided to see what else was going on and venture through the hallway.
When we passed through the hallway we were so surprised it just kept going and going! There are so many unique shops! We especially loved Spices and Tease. I have never seen so many spices in my life and the presentation was just beautiful. All of the spices are displayed in bowls with cute little markers. We are not much of cooks (but have recently discovered the cooking channel and Beat Bobby Flay so now are cooking more often), but seeing all of those spices and exotic flavors made us really itch to grab a spatula.
We grabbed some crispy cookies from Eleni’s New York. The oatmeal chocolate chip hit the spot for me! I feel like the fact that it is oatmeal offsets the fact that it is a cookie – like it MIGHT not be as bad for me. :] Unlike most cookies, these are thin and crispy, but perfect. They are delicious – definitely stop in before you leave to grab a box (or 3 like us!).
We loved the overall industrial feel of Chelsea Market – it was like a hidden gem. There is a fun water feature and Instagram-worthy lights around the clock. I definitely recommend taking a stroll through this popular attraction! Be sure to check out events constantly going on at the Chelsea Market and you can even schedule a tour!
